How parental support therapy can help your family

Parenting can be deeply rewarding and deeply challenging. You might be:

  • Unsure how to support your child through anxiety, big emotions, or behavioural changes

  • Feeling tension or conflict building within the family

  • Struggling to stay patient or grounded when emotions run high

  • Trying to meet everyone’s needs while running on empty

  • Wondering if you’re doing enough, or doing it “right”

Parent counselling offers a calm, compassionate space to slow down, understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and learn new ways to connect with your child and yourself.

Finding support that strengthens your family

Through parental support counselling, we’ll focus on building confidence, communication, and emotional regulation within your family system. Together, we’ll explore the patterns that keep you stuck and develop practical ways to shift them.

This work draws from a variety of therapeutic approaches designed to meet your family where you are and help you move toward connection and balance. You can explore some of the main approaches I use below.

What to

expect

  • I work with parents of children and teens of all ages—from early childhood through adolescence. The focus of this work is on supporting you as the parent, helping you respond effectively to your child’s needs and emotions.

  • SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) is an evidence-based approach that helps parents support children struggling with anxiety or avoidance. Instead of focusing on the child directly, we work together to change the way you respond to your child’s distress—creating more confidence and calm at home.

  • Not necessarily. Some families prefer to attend together, while others find it more effective for one parent or caregiver to start. We’ll structure sessions in a way that best supports your goals and family dynamic.

  • Every family’s needs are different. Some parents notice meaningful changes after just a few sessions, while others benefit from ongoing support. We’ll determine the right pace together, based on your family’s goals and the changes you’d like to see.

  • Yes, in most cases. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), my services are often covered by extended health insurance plans. You can check with your provider to confirm your specific coverage.

A calmer, more connected home is possible

Over time, you’ll notice more ease and understanding in your interactions with your child. Conflicts begin to de-escalate more quickly, and your confidence as a parent grows. Many parents describe feeling less reactive and more able to stay present, even when emotions run high.

This work is about building resilience and connection for the whole family. With the right support, change is possible.

If you’re ready to bring more calm and connection into your home, I’d be honoured to help you get started.
